Today’s Workout – Speed Work

Total Mileage: 11.10 miles

Total Time:  1:40:02

Average Pace: 9:00 min/mile

A late post is better than no post at all right?

Today has been pretty crazy. We had our carpets steam cleaned so I spent most of the morning clearing everything out of my house, and then distracting my dog while the carpet cleaners got to work.

I didn’t get to start my run until around 11:00, but I still made sure to get it done!

My treadmill was not able to be used this morning, so I went over to my parent’s hotel to use theirs.

The only disadvantage to using the hotel’s treadmill is that it would cut off after 60:00 minutes and then I would have to start it back up. Oh well at least it was allowing me to get it done!

It erased my first 60 minutes too quickly for me to snap a picture, but I did get a picture of the last of my speed work and my extra miles.

The gym was small but nice. I was the only one in there besides when my parents came in to do a workout which was really nice.

I was completely drenched in sweat when I finished, but I felt so happy to have completed a tough workout.

My motto in life right now is “just keep smiling” – so this picture goes along with that!

After I finished my run my parents headed to lunch and brought me back a coffee.  No matter the time of day coffee is my absolute favorite thing in the world!

For today’s workout I tried something different.  My husband completed the Yasso 800 workout last week and suggested I complete a modified version of it today. This workout was created originally by Bart Yasso.

Yasso 800 Modified

You base each 800 on your goal marathon pace. For example, my goal is to run a 3 hour and 35 minute marathon so each 800 should take me 3 minutes and 35 seconds.

In between each of the 800’s you should jog for 3 minutes and 35 seconds as well and then repeat.

The true Yasso 800 workout is supposed to be completed 10 times. When you are beginning this type of training workout they say to start with 4 and work your way up. Once you can complete the 10 it is supposed to indicate you are ready for your marathon.

I completed 6 of these today and let me tell you they are TOUGH! I was considering doing 7 or 8 but after 5 I felt like I was going to vomit so I took that as my sign that 6 would be enough for today.

I completed the workout with a cool down for a total of 11.1 miles.

Overall it went well but I could tell my body was tired today.

My parents are in town for one more day and then I will say goodbye.  It has been great spending time with them, but my schedule has been all over the place!

How do you fit in your workouts when you have out of town guests?
