Today’s Workout – Speed Workout

Total Miles: 11.10 miles

Total Time: 80:44 (9.5 miles) + cool down 16:11 (1.6 miles) = 1:36:16

Average Pace: 8:29 min/pace (workout), 10:00 min/pace (cool down)

I hope everyone has taken a chance today to think back and remember all those affected by 9/11. I can remember exactly where I was on that day. My brother had just moved into college in Washington D.C. and I was terrified waiting to hear from him, finally we got the call he was okay a couple hours later.

Today called for a workout, so it was time for speed work!

I went back and forth on what I should do today before finally settling on this workout.

110 Mile Repeat Workout

The goal for this workout EVENTUALLY is to be able to do 6 x 1 mile repeats at 110% of marathon goal pace with only a 400 meter jog in between each. This workout along with my 10 Yasso 800’s are the two workouts that will let me know I am in shape to Boston Qualify.

I am not quite at the point where I am ready for that, but I decided to start it out slow.

The best thing about running at home – you don’t have to be color coordinated! I was quite colorful today and probably looked ridiculous but thankfully the only person to see my was my husband! 🙂

I am pretty happy with being able to complete 5 x 1 mile repeats with an 800 meter jog; that shows I don’t have a HUGE way to go! The 110% mile repeat pace for my goal is a 7:24 min mile.

The final workout ended in just over an hour and a half, but that was after a 1.5 mile easy run at the end.  The actual “workout” itself was 9.5 miles and took me about 1:20 minutes.

I always make sure to leave myself encouraging little notes on my workouts.  I do this especially now that I am running primarily at home because it helps to give me a little boost of motivation.  Running in the same room I spend 70% of my day in can get mentally draining, so when I feel like I’m losing motivation or energy I look at that to remind myself what I’m doing this for.

I was pouring sweat by the end of the workout, but something tells me that means it was a great workout!

In other news, my husband officially submitted his residency application last night!

He spent most of the night finishing this up and has applied to about 15-20 residencies. We are hoping to be able to move back down south, because let’s face it I will always be a southern girl at heart! This finally made it feel real to me that this medical school journey (well the school part) is starting to come to an end.  I have no idea where we will end up, but I do know that I am more than excited to start a new chapter in my life with my absolute best friend in the world!

I know I know…I’ll stop now!

I will leave you with one last picture from last night.

This is my dog and cat and they are SO close together. You don’t understand how rare this is. They usually hate each other but last night in the 90 degree heat they bonded over the air vent!

What do you look forward to in the next year?
