I am counting this week as my first week back to running. Of course, I have quite a ways to go and am in no way rushing it but it feels good to finally be able to say that!

My body is responding pretty well. It’s still taking some time to get used to get up early in the morning before work; however, it is starting to become more of a habit finally! I’m hoping that as the weeks pass it will become easier, but let’s face it getting up at or before 5:00 AM is never going to be easy.

I’m excited that I’ll be able to hopefully work spinning in once my new bike arrives and it will help to work the different muscles in my legs. Not sure exactly when it is going to arrive, but we will wait and see!

Here is a breakdown of my workouts this week:

Monday

I completed a total of 40 minutes on the treadmill (3 minutes running/1 minute walking). I did about 15 minutes of upper body strength work afterwards.

Tuesday

I took Tuesday off from running and just focused on strength work. In total I did 30 minutes of strength work both upper and lower body.

Wednesday

I did another 40 minutes on the treadmill (4 minutes running/1 minute walking). I ran out of time so I only did a short 5-10 minutes of strength work.

Thursday

Another 40 minutes on the treadmill (5 minutes running/1 minute walking). I followed it up with 15 minutes upper body strength work.

This was probably the most challenging workout for me this week. I was tired.

Friday

As always, I took Friday off.

Saturday

Saturday I woke up and my husband said he was going to head to the track to do his first real workout since Boston. I haven’t been to the track in a while so I figured, why not!

I knew I wouldn’t be doing a workout but was looking forward to getting back out there. I ran for a total of 60 minutes (4 minutes of walking included). It felt decent! It ended up adding up to just over 6 miles for the day. A far cry from my previous Saturday long runs, but I’m happy with it! I kept it slow and steady. I also came back and finished off with some full body strength work.

Sunday

The goal is a nice and easy walk. I don’t want to run again after a longer run Saturday.

My workouts aren’t too exciting these days, but they do make me feel like I am making progress. Getting back outside on Saturday was a big turning point for me and while I was still much slower it made me feel like my old self again! I hope this nice weather hangs around for quite a while because it makes running so much more fun!

A routine is a really important thing for me. I used to think I was too regimented, and some days I do like to go with the flow a bit more but when it comes to being successful during the work week a routine is essential.

I think that about sums up my workouts this week. I’m happy with the progress and realize I still have a ways to go, but that is okay! I’m taking it easy and letting my body adjust as it needs. I think that is the most important thing I can do for myself right now.

How did your workouts go this week?
