These are the type of posts that happen when you really have no idea what to talk about it. It happens, so bear with me!
Another crazy week is coming to an end. In a way I’m pretty sad because my husband switches rotations on Monday. He will go back to working 6 days a week, 12 hours a day. Sure, it could be worse but I’ll miss having him home when I get there.
I haven’t done a Five Things Friday in a little while, so I figured it would be a good time to do a completely random one! Here are Five Random Things Friday!
1. 4:30 AM takes a toll.
Every single week I stick to pretty much the same schedule. I may get up a little later (not by much) now that I run a little less, but I still try to keep extra time for core work in the morning.
By Thursday morning I am wiped. Monday isn’t usually too bad because I’ve gotten more sleep over the weekend, but after 4 consecutive days of 5-6 hours of sleep I start to get run down.
After I get out of the shower, each morning this week I’ve been curling up on the bed with this pretty girl for about 15 minutes to rest my eyes before getting ready for work.
I am completely aware that those 15 minutes really don’t do anything for me, but it just feels so nice! I know there are probably several things I could be getting done during these 15 minutes, but it just doesn’t matter.
2. Core work.
Maybe it’s just me, but core work has always been one of those things I’ve KNOWN I needed to do but it is always the easiest thing to put off.
Over the last few months I’ve been doing a much better job, though I could still stand to get a bit more consistent! This week I downloaded the app for my iPhone Instant Abs. I know it’s a silly title, but it has some great core workouts.
I’ve noticed if I do the same routine over and over, I want to do it less. This way I have a good amount of different core routines I can do. It’s been great targeting different areas of my core too!
You can do individual moves, or they have already pre-made ab routines!
You do whatever gets you motivated to get it done!
3. Back On the Treadmill
Thursday morning it was raining pretty hard. Wednesday it was almost 70 degrees and less than 24 hours later they were calling for snow and freezing rain!? It’s been crazy weather around here.
I ended up having to go back to the treadmill. It makes it much easier when I only have to do it once during the week instead of the last time when I spent every morning on it!
Thankfully we thought our treadmill was dead, but it came back to life! I honestly have no idea what happened but I am thankful because my gym doesn’t open early enough for me!
I only did an 5 miles, but since it was slightly quicker than most it went by in no time.
A bright side of the crazy weather is that our office close a couple hours early! That gave me several extra hours to get ahead on a few things!
4. Nutrition for Runners
I am so excited to have received an opportunity to read Nutrition for Runners! Nutrition is always such a tricky things even for the most experienced runners.
Nutrition for Runners was created by Jason Fitzgerald and Anne Mauney.
The description of the book on Anne’s website:
“Nutrition for Runners is a comprehensive nutrition and training program for runners. In addition to meal guides, expert interviews, and a full recipe cookbook, it also includes a library of training plans designed for either performance or weight loss. It’s truly a one stop shop for those of you looking to take your running performance to the next level.”
I can’t wait to dig in and come back and share my thoughts with you!
5. Several New Songs
I like to share new songs when I find them, so here are a few recent adds to my iPod. I don’t think any of these are “new” per say, just new to me!
Shell Shocked – Juicy J, Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $sign
Tip It On Back – Dierks Bentley
Sippin’ on Fire – Florida Georgie Line
There you have it! Five completely random things for today!
Tell me something random!
That app may not give me instant abs (how misleading…), but it looks like a handy tool to use at the gym!
Ha! I know! Isn’t it the craziest title!? I had to overlook that one, but it does have some great core workouts!
Core work is my favrorite! Haha It makes me sad that people “forget” about it!
I’m hoping your love for it rubs off on me soon!!
Nutrition for runners should be great. I used Jason as a coach for my last two marathons and I love Anne’s blog.
It sounds like he would be an AWESOME coach!:)
Wow, I don’t know how you manage on so little sleep! Seven hours is my minimum to be a pleasant human being, but I shoot for nine when I’m training. I’ll be interested to hear more about the book – nutrition is definitely an area I need to focus on more!
I am normally drained by Friday when it comes to early workouts! I always make it an easy day.
5-6 hours sleep? You are a rockstar! I do 8-9 a night for recovery and that is my minimum
