Today’s Workout – Tempo Run and Cool Down
Total Mileage: 13 miles
Total Time: 1:50:00
Average Pace: 8:26 min/mile (Tempo Run), 10:00 min/pace (Cool Down)
I have a delicious and healthified treat to share with you today, but before I do that I’ll share with you my killer workout this morning.
I am trying to take advantage of all this “extra time” I have now and get some good workouts in.
This morning I went to the gym with the hubby and completed the following:
0.5 mile warm up (around the indoor track)
2 x 3 mile tempo at 8:00 min pace
5 minute jog in between each
3 x 800 at 7:34 min pace
2 minute jog between each
1.5 mile cool down
The total mileage for the tempo work was 11.00 miles.
This workout was very tough but I was so proud and definitely gained some confidence in myself after completing it.
If anyone is looking for some great speed work shoes I HIGHLY recommend the Saucony Kinvara’s. They are light weight and have just enough padding. I love them!
Now on to something yummy 🙂
Last night I asked my husband to let me know what he wanted me to make him for his birthday. He likes cake but it’s not his favorite so I told him to pick out whatever he wanted and I would make it.
We of course have become much more budget friendly and were trying to find a “healthier” recipe.
He pulled a recipe online for Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerio Krispie Treats. They are basically rice krispie treats but using chocolate cheerios instead. Â I took the recipe and did a few substitutions (I was completely just doing this on a whim, I really had no clue what I was doing.)
This is the final product I came up with – and they are husband approved so that means they have to be good!
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerio Treats
Ingredients:
1 box multigrain cheerios (the original recipe called for chocolate cheerios)
1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce (the original recipe called for butter)
1 bag of miniature marshmallows
1/4 cup whipped peanut butter (you can use regular peanut butter but the whipped kind cuts out a third of the sugar)
1/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions:
1. Add the unsweetened apple sauce to a medium pan along with the marshmallows. Â Stir continuously until the marshmallows have melted into a sauce.
*Note: Unlike with normal butter you need to be VERY attentive when melting the marshmallows with the applesauce and continue to stir the entire time.
2. Once the marshmallows have melted add in the peanut butter and stir until combined.
3. Once melted, remove from heat and add in the multigrain cheerios. Â You will need to do this quickly. Â Coat the cereal in the marshmallow and peanut butter mixture.
4. Poor into a 9 x 13 baking dish and press down evenly.
5. Sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chops over top and then press down.
6. Let cool entirely before cutting.
Of course if you are celebrating someone’s birthday – add a candle and serve!
You do need to make sure you let them cool COMPLETELY prior to serving. Â I didn’t wait quite long enough so they fell apart a bit at first.
What is your favorite thing to have for your birthday?
Aww happy bday to your hubby! Cool idea to do a healthier bday treat!
Oh cool! Those look yummy!
They were!! 🙂
Definitely going to make those treats – I know the kids will like them as well!
And a second to the Saucony Kinvaras. I grabbed the Kinvara 4’s almost 2 weeks ago and have put just over 100 miles on them and they are excellent. I was using Nike Free 3’s, and find these are comparable with great cushion and a solid feel … and the soles don’t pick up a half-ton of rocks like the Nike!
