First off, I wanted to start off by saying I am feeling 110% BETTER! I finally figured out that my problems with running this weekend most likely came from dehydration. It can really mess with your body!
I am usually really good about paying attention to my fluid intake throughout the day, but on Friday since I didn’t run I for some reason just didn’t think about it like I normally do. Instead of taking my normal 32 oz of water to work with me to make sure to drink by lunch, I didn’t have much. That accompanied by the extreme humidity on Saturday pretty much did me in. After proper hydration Saturday, Sunday and Monday I feel SO much better!
In fact, I woke up at 4:40 AM on Monday and completed my scheduled 8 mile easy run. Besides a little heart burn I felt great and the weather felt awesome! Even though it was early in the morning it felt so nice to feel “normal” running again!
I normally do around 6 on Monday mornings so I was a bit rushed in getting to work this morning. That meant it called for a quick breakfast. As soon as I get back from a workout I typically will have a protein shake that includes both protein and carbs. I shower, get ready and then as I am leaving I grab breakfast #2.
Today I opted for a Detour SMART bar. I was recently introduced to these and have really fallen in love!
So what ARE Detour SMART Bars?
- All Natural
- Gluten Free
- 135 Calories
- 10 g or protein
Here is a breakdown of the nutritional information:
The goal of Detour SMART Bars was to combine the need for healthy snacking, protein and energy. These are all things that most of us look for at some point during the day. For this reason they are a great option when I need something quick on the way to work after my morning run or in the afternoon as my energy is waining.
In total they come in 4 different flavors:
- Apple Cinnamon
- Cranberry Flax
- Peanut Butter Chocolate
While I am sure every flavor is delicious, I have only tried the Blueberry and Apple Cinnamon.
Blueberry flavor is typically my favorite of anything, and this one did not disappoint.
What I really love about these bars is that they are good for you and actually do all the things that bars are supposed to. There are too many bars out there today that are filled with preservatives, high sugar and all sorts of ingredients that end up making you feel bad and leaving you hungry.
These bars keep you full, provide the protein that your body needs and do it all naturally.
They are both sweet bars but it isn’t overpowering. I love the Greek yogurt drizzle on top!
They aren’t huge bars, but they are packed with goodness and made from organic whole oats. Oats are great for keeping you full and long last sustained energy. Again, a perfect morning on-the-go breakfast or mid afternoon snack.
What is your quick and on the go breakfast?
Do you ever break your breakfast up like I do?
