Bloggers-on-the-run-box

Even though I am traveling this weekend I still wanted to bring you another Monday Bloggers on The Run!

This week’s featured blogger is Heather from Divas Run for Bling.

Heather

Name: Heather

When did you first start blogging and why?

I started blogging in October 2013 as a way to share my running journey with the world. The blog covers everything related to that journey – the training, the workouts, the races, the nutrition, the tips & advice, the lessons I have learned along the way and some healthy recipes.

What is your most helpful blogging tip?

Interact with your readers! I love hearing from all my readers whether is through comments or on social media.

What is your favorite fitness activity?

Running!

What motivates you?

My health is what motivates me the most. I want to be able to live a long, fit and healthy life with my family.

What has fitness changed about your life?

It has changed how I see myself. I am no longer worried as much about my weight (though I need to lose a little). I know that there is more to overall health than just the numbers on the scale. And I have learned that fitness helps more than just your physical health. It keeps me from being stressed and I always have a more positive outlook on life after a workout.

What is your favorite pump up song?

Feel free to giggle a little bit, but my pump up song is actually Let it Go by Idina Menzel from the Disney Frozen soundtrack. It’s a ballad to be sure but the message in the song is very uplifting and reminds me to focus on how I see myself and not what others think.

What is your favorite running distance?

The half marathon – it’s long enough to require some training and to push yourself but not so long that it can take all your free time like a marathon sometimes can.

What is your favorite motivational quote/mantra?

Heather 2

“All your dreams can come true if you have to courage to pursue them.” – Walt Disney

What is your favorite piece of running/fitness gear?

I love my Swirlgear shirts. They are made for women runners by women runners and are so colorful. They always put a smile on my face when I wear one.

What is your favorite “treat”?

I love to get a Chocolate Lean 1 Smoothie with added peanut butter from Smoothie King after a long run.

What is a long term running or fitness goal you have for yourself?

I am a slow runner and have had to deal with Plantar Fasciitis over the past year or so. My main goal for this year is to run a half marathon in under 3 hours.

Tell us something unique about yourself.

I am a Disney Fanatic. I love to run at either of the parks, go to the parks, stalk the characters for autographs and dress up like the characters for the RunDisney races.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone who is starting out running, what would it be?

Listen to your body. Last summer, I developed Plantar Fasciitis which sidelined me for a bit because I would ignore the aches and pains when I ran. Your body will tell you if something doesn’t feel right or if you need to rest.

How do you find/make time to train?

I usually will do maintenance, speed or tempo runs after work before I cook dinner and my long runs on Saturday mornings. I don’t have children yet so it is a bit easier to work in training time at the moment.

What’s an accomplishment you are most proud of?

The Dumbo Double Dare in 2013 at Disneyland. I ran the 10K on Saturday morning and Half Marathon on Sunday morning – while suffering from plantar fasciitis. Needless to say, I walked both races as it didn’t hurt like running did and completed both of them. It was great fun despite the injury and felt so good to cross the finish line knowing I can overcome adversity when I put my mind to it.
