This is my personal experience with running and pregnancy. Please consult your Doctor before starting any exercise program.

Oh wow 16 weeks threw a couple curve balls at me, but that is to be expected right? More on that a little later in my running recap. Some days I think this time is flying by and others I feel like it is crawling. I still can’t complain much, because I am still overwhelmed with joy that we will be adding this beautiful bundle of joy to our family in December.

Baby in Week 16

16 weeks: Little one is the size of an avocado; roughly 4.5 inches long (crown to rump) and 3.5 oz.

I feel like my belly still is about the same. I’m in that awkward phase of pregnancy where I just look like I’m gaining weight but that’s okay!

Weight Gained: I haven’t weighed myself at home since my last Doctor’s appointment at 15 weeks so I will still report total weight gain so far is around 6 pounds. I do have an appointment next Tuesday for some blood work, so maybe I’ll get an update then? Not quite sure.

Symptoms: This week everything really threw me for a loop. I woke up on Monday morning with nausea, extreme dizziness, and feeling really weak.  I thought it was just a day thing, but again on Wednesday the nausea hit me again as I was getting ready for work. It lasted all day. I really haven’t had much nausea throughout my pregnancy so far so I’m not sure where it came from.

Food Aversions: Still nothing really. The days that I was feeling nauseous I didn’t feel like eating much, but I made sure to keep eating because the only real relief I was getting was when I would eat.

Food Cravings: This was the week of SWEETS! This was the first week I’ve really craved it too. My husband brought home a bunch of leftover cake from the hospital and I have been craving it ALL week. I’ve been able to keep it under control for the most part, but I’m learning if I don’t want to go crazy I’m going to have to start keeping it out of the house.

Sleep: I definitely didn’t feel as rested this week after I woke up each morning. Even Friday when I got to sleep in until 6:00 with over 8 hours of sleep, I still feel like I had slept for about 2 hours. Oh well. I just have come to accept that getting up in the morning is going to be tough for me.

Baby Items Purchased: Yeah we are still at zero. My husband has a crazy schedule right now so we are waiting until he is done to be able to start really looking at things. I’ve still been reading lots of reviews and have a lot of things in mind, but we haven’t purchased anything or started our registry yet.

Exciting Things Happening This Week: This week wasn’t too exciting. I didn’t have any appointments and so it actually was pretty quiet.

Looking Forward To: We are having some testing done on Tuesday, so I am looking forward to getting that behind us and giving us a little peace of mind (hopefully).  We are also heading to the beach for a long weekend, and I can’t tell you how badly we need it! Of course, I’m also looking forward to our anatomy scan on the 11th!

Running in Week 16

Oh boy, running this week was definitely more of a challenge. I come to expect that some days are going to be rough, but this week marked the first official week where I skipped a day. I woke up Monday and immediately knew my body wasn’t in the place to go and run. I got home after work and considered trying to get something in, but still opted to rest. I knew my body needed it.

Here is a quick breakdown of my running and workouts this week:

Monday – Off

Tuesday – 6.11 miles outside

Wednesday – 40 minutes on the treadmill (4.2 miles), 20 minutes on the spin bike

Thursday – 60 minutes on the treadmill (6.25 miles)

Friday – Off

Saturday – 9.10 miles outside

Sunday – 5 miles outside

This week did mark the first time I was able to run outside in the early morning. I just knew my body wasn’t going to handle the treadmill that day, so I took it outside. It was a bit hotter than I expected, so I had to watch myself a bit more than normal but it sure was a nice break.

Overall, running got a bit harder this week but I needed to step it back a little so I took this week as my opportunity. I’m enjoying just going with the flow and focusing on maintaining a good base.
