I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

Unfortunately, my husband had to work last night so it wasn’t quite the same as it usually is but we did enjoy the time we got together.

It was such a beautiful weekend here, so it allowed me to get a lot of cleaning done with the windows down which is one of my favorite things! I wish it would stay like this for the rest of the summer. I don’t need the humidity!

This week looked a little different in terms of running. Same workouts, just switched some days around due to my schedule. Let’s take a look:

Monday – 12 miles (Tempo)

This was my first week of an 8 mile tempo run. I had the day off Monday, so instead of trying to run in the blistering heat I headed to the gym.

I did a quick warm up around the track and then headed to the treadmill for my tempo.

week 82

In total I did 8 miles at 7:35 pace. I wouldn’t call it easy but it sure wasn’t as hard as it was outside! I did a cool down for a total of 12 miles for the day.

Easy Day1

Tuesday – 8 miles

My mileage picked up this week so my first easy day was 8 miles. This was really difficult, as I wrote about earlier this week.

Easy1

I opted to take it even slower than my prescribed “easy” pace and I think that was a really smart decision. It may have been slower than I’ve run in months, but my body needed it!

Wednesday – 8 miles (Speed)

I was back on the treadmill for my Wednesday workout. When I went out to take the dog it felt like I was in a cloud. I can do easy runs in crazy humidity, but trying to do a tempo or workout is just setting me up for something terrible.

week 83

The workout was a repeat of a couple of weeks ago:

Warm up
6 x 800 with 400 recovery
Cool down

The 800’s were done in 3:15 and recovery around a 9:45-10:00 pace. It was tough but thankful for the treadmill that day!

Thursday – 7 miles

Thursday started off rough with only 3 miles before turning around and going back to bed.

Rest Days1

However, I redeemed myself after work when I went to the trails and met Wes for 4 miles. It wasn’t easy, way too hot, and a reminder of why I run in the morning but I got all 7 miles in!

Rest Days2

Friday – Off

Month end at work is always crazy and usually requires me working late, so I was happy to have the day off from running.

Sleeping in until 6:00 AM feels like such a luxury!

week 81

I focused on getting my carbs in for Saturday’s run! My favorite pre-long run food is pasta, olive oil and spices.

Saturday – 15 miles

I had really high hopes going into Saturday. The humidity had been down a little bit so I was hoping for a great run.

I headed out a little later than planned, but still not too late!

I picked out a new course and was excited to do something a little different. The first 11-12 miles were decent but as the morning progressed it kept getting hotter and hotter. The last 3-4 miles were a struggle. My pace kept slowing down but still kept it just under 9 minute miles.

week 84

In total, I ended up averaging an 8:28. Not as quickly as I had hoped but I’m satisfied with it considering I was really battling the heat near the end.

Sunday – 8 miles

The plan is to run an easy 8 miles. I don’t know how easy it will be, but I am planning on just letting my body tell me what it can do.

There you have it! Week 8 is done and while it wasn’t easy, it wasn’t the worst I’ve had! I am just focusing on taking this one day at a time until October 11th.

I am still counting down the days until fall!

How did your running go this week?
